Melt Aluminum with Charcoal?

I have been always fascinated by how man (and woman) can manipulate metal, but always thought this was out of reach for mere mortals such as myself.  Fear no more, the "Mad Machinist" is here.  During his life Dave Gingery penned several books on these subjects, including titles such as "The Charcoal Foundry", "The Metal Lathe"  and many others.  These books are re-printed by Lindsay Publications, in the flatlands of Illinois (as we so fondly refer to our southern neighbor state here in Wisconsin).  Have at it.  Order their catalog.  Contribute to the local economy.
